Airport entrances/exits are normally safe, however crime can be
higher around this area ranging from property thefts to abductions. Main
criminal activities are taxi related scams as well as luggage assistance scams.

This area is fairly safe in terms of on the spot terrorist attacks.
If however there is a closed parking lot within close proximity to the main
entrances/exits, this will raise the chances of a "near entrance" attack. This
can be seen with the Madrid airport parking lot bombing. The effect of the
explosion collapsed some of the structures.

Typical crimes to look out for are:

  • Pick pockets
  • Criminal taxi drivers
  • Luggage theft
  • False porters
  • Abductions

                                                                                   Terror attacks:

  • Parking lot explosives
  • Package bombs
The explosion in Madrid took place in
the terminal's parking lot across from
the main entrance to the airport.
Two were killed and 26 people received
injuries, the injuries were mainly damage
to the ears because of the shock wave.

This explosion was from a van bomb,
containing 500 to 800 kilograms of
explosives

Entry was restricted to all airport
terminals by the Spanish police.
