Aircraft crimes are fairly low, cabin crew are somewhat trained in
handling on board problems. They are however not well trained in
recognizing problems before they occur. As with anywhere in the airport
you must secure your own security. Flight attendants and pilots may
have some training in dealing with on board threats such as drunk or
unruly travelers, but in my travel experience they have very little.
Aircraft hijackings and attacks are not that common, however we must
understand that terrorist organizations are constantly working and
planning for their next airlines terror attack, if this were not so, we would
not be hearing about such grandly planned and highly technical aircraft
takeovers. The fact of the matter is that the next airlines hijacking and
bombing is just around the corner. Airlines hijacking and bombing are
not a matter of IF but WHEN.

Typical crimes to look out for:

  • Shoulder surfing as you work
  • Pick pocket on exit
  • Small baggage theft on exit
  • Air rage
  • Drunk and disorderly

    Terror attacks:

  • High jacking
  • Suicide attack
  • Explosive attack
  • Ground to air attack

Some examples of mid air terror attacks are: In 1988,
a bomb hidden in a radio
destroyed Pan Am Flight 103 over the
city of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people.
Since this bombing airport security screening has much improved in
most western countries. But in many other countries security screening
is years behind in technology and security staff training.

And who could forget the
9-11 hijacking of 3 American Airlines planes
that were used to murder travelers. On flight 93
, passengers were
recorded as fighting back the terrorists and keeping them from
reaching possibly other targets that would have taken more innocent lives.
