- Over the years various police/security departments as well as
civil groups have experienced increasing attacks upon law
abiding individuals. These attacks were often directed
against females as well as females in police/security/prison
work or professional/civilians of smaller physical stature.

would allow the professionals and civilians, regardless of
size, to effectively defend him\herself and gain immediate
control of a much larger or stronger attacker.

The self-defence techniques used in combination with the kubotan are extremely simple ones. They work by trapping the nerves
in the skin between the two hard surfaces, these being the kubotan and one of the opponent's bones. If done properly, the pain
to the attacker is excruciating but very short-term, leaving no lasting injury of any sort.
There are non-lethal contact points used with the kubotan keychain along the spine, chest, and solar plexus, as well as
pressure points along the arms and legs. Other, more damaging locations include the throat, eyes, and groin - but there are no
guarantees that driving the kubotan into these locations will not resort in permanent injury to the attacker, so they should not be
used except under the most grave of circumstances.
The instructors of the Kubotan course have used these techniques effectively and legally thorough out their employment as
nightclub security as well as police work. The effectiveness of the techniques is seen immediately with no permanent injury if
done by a trained security/police professional.
These techniques are simple to apply, but to make them
effective you must understand how they cause pain, how
your opponent will react to this pain, the best way to
manage the effect, and how to control your opponent
once you have used a technique.

early 80's. Teaching civilians and security professionals
how to defend themselves using the kubotan effectively.
The HSI kubotan course is approx 3-4 hours, cover topics such as legal use of kubotan for self defense as well as the kubotan
being used for security/police professionals. Also students cover realistic usable techniques that work in real life.
