Thousands of Young women and men have participated in the Au Pair Programs. Most have found it to be a rewarding
experience, but it is important to fully understand the program before deciding to participate.
The Au Pair safety and Security Program was established in 2007 as a much needed educational source for cultural
exchange with a strong safety and security oriented focus. HSI Groups Program participants enter the United States,
Canada and Great Britain for up to 12 months to care for the children of these countries family in whose home they will
live.

"Au pair" is French for "on par," reminding host families that, although an employee, their international visitor is to be
treated as a member of the family. The rules are clear in most cases:
Au pairs are provided a private bedroom, meals,
remuneration tied to the minimum wage, one and one-half days off weekly plus a full weekend off each month, two
weeks paid vacation. With these basics there are the obvious questions regarding safety and security of the Au Pair
working for the host family.  In addition to the obvious above mentioned issues, host families must also provide all the
needed information regarding the city and living area hazards such as crime ridden cities and areas of town where the Au
Pair is to stay away from for safety concerns.
